Yellow Cake Bait
There was this guy that made yellow bait that smell so good. You could smell it all over the lake because he uses so mush butternut in it a whole bottle of it. Eight ounces of it to a big box of rice.
Catch fish that he did with this bait like no other could. No one else knew what all he put in it but we wish that we did for he would get the fish with it. But it smells just like a cake it did.
I fish beside him a few times over the years at different lakes and we got into the fish. You know the new fish when they start to turn on so to say. I'm telling you that his bait was one of the best that I have seen on the lakes bar any.
We got in to them at lonzo on day when it was misting rain. We wore the fish out that day catching fish in the 20 and teens. Hard to remember a better day it is I tell you. Now this wasn't the first time that Mike and I had done this with new fish.
See years ago if you watch it close when that they put new fish in a lake you could time it. They would start to bite in 4 to 6 weeks after that they were put in the lake. Also they were in the same size just about all the time as that they were like deer in that respect. Pecking order so to say. I know sounds crazy but it true just the same. The spots would be the same for next year most of the time unless we had some big rains that wash the banks away you know.
His bait would call them in to were that he was most of the time as any great bait does. So I will call this one the yellow cake bait and the man that fish it so well was Mike Haywood.
