Carp Fishing 101
The things I love about it!
Your reel takes off and you set the hook. The rod bends double and you know that you have a good fish on. He is taking out line at a fast rate. You know that you have got to slow him down some are he is going to pull the hook. So you pull back on the rod to put a little heat on him. He does not like that so he starts to pull harder. Now so you put more heat on him, it starts to work he is turning now coming back to you that’s a good thing.
Now you get your first look at him and he is no monster but he will go in the 20s. So now you know that you have to land this carp. But he has other ideas about that and you are at the bank he takes off a gene. He came up to the top of the water and starts to show himself. That is not good for he is trying to get read of the hook as a lot have. You pull back on the rod a little and put just a little heat on him this time not a lot. For he is really cutting up on top of the water! You pull him close to the net and he is in the net and the hooks fly up in the air. You look at the one netting the fish and ask did you get him. He goes all quiet and then said here your fish. A smile comes across your face and it is on the photos and the weighting and that is it.
To get to the above you first have to go carp fishing. So go and take a kid with you or a friend and get out of the house. You can go pay-laking or at a river as long as you go somewhere where it is calm. It is relaxing and fun to carp fish and you outside in the sun and air. Now that you have picked you a place to fish and got that out of the way. Got your stands on the ground and getting ready to throw your reels in the water. You want to keep them in the same spot so that you can get some bait on the bottom of the lake or river, where ever you go fishing at. Here is something that you can do at the river and that is. That we would take bread and take a little and roll it in between your fingers, making it in little tight round balls, or squares trumping it out in the water. Doing this in front of you, and around your reels making a half moon. Soon you will start to see fish coming up and making swirls. Sticking their heads out of the water and then all at once that big one shows his self. Too early for him so you say to him thanks for coming by coming back a little later. You see the white cloud go through the water. Then you think to yourself that will call him in. All that sent going out in the water. Then you trump a little more bread out in the water do this for about 15 minutes. The bread is good to do when you are just fishing on the hours for you can do it so that no one can see what you doing. I have got a lot of big fish by doing this over the years fishing for carp. Be sure to check out the laws on chumming before you do this at the rivers.
Another thing is baits I love to make bait to carp fish with. Because your mind is the limitation to what you come up with in baits! There all kinds of baits that you can make from chow to rice, Oats, grits and pack baits. For the rivers, you can even make boilies to use. Boilies came from across the water from Europe. So if you want to know more about them look them up I learn about them on Cag Carp Angers Group.
You can find all kinds of stuff to use in bait in the food stores. Like Jell-O, Kool-Aid, Babies food, cereals, spices, ketchup, Rice, oats and even sometimes wheat barn bird seed you have to watch it because it comes to the top of the water. It is best to use haul millet for it will stay on the bottom.
I use flavors (usually water based) in pack bait and method all the time. You have several American ones such as Superior flavors, R&W carp juice, K-1 liquids, Carp Pro flavors, etc., plus the ones from the UK made for method and mixes, mainline, dynamite, the list goes on. I use superior and R&W both, mostly superior lately. Superior Fruitanilla, tutti, pineapple, VBN, strawberry, and I are a recent convert to the "hot cinnamon" flavor, that stuff rocks. R&W "Glow bait" is another that is absolutely fantastic, it smells good and catches like crazy. Carolina strawberry is another one of my favorites, as with their cherry.
You have several grocery store
flavors as well, cinnamon and chili powder work very well, I tend to use these
more in the winter. You also have a less used one called Turmeric (people are
going to hate me for this), turmeric has a very strong yellow dye to it and has
a strong flavor that really isn't describable, it's strong, spicy but sweet,
and the carp love it. Molasses is another good additive that is usually thought
of as old school, especially in the pay lake world. Jell-O / Kool-Aid is still used massively in the pay
lake world. That’s about it on baits I think on with something else about carp
fishing.
Hears a bait for you to try. It is a grit bait. Pay-lake

A simple method
mix is.
1 large can of old fashioned
oats,
1 can quick grits
2 cans cream corn
3/4 can of water
Add whatever
flavoring you want, I like a hole bottle of chili
powder.
let sit for 5-10 minutes until
sticky but not too wet. Then mold it
around a weight nice and firm and let it fly.
There put theirs on the weight because they use such a big one. You can put it on the hook it will be ok. If it does not want to stay on the hook just add a bit of flour to it till you get it to stay on the hook and still come apart.
It’s different each time that you go. The carp seem to want something new and you have to figure that out to stay on top of them. To get the big ones you do I have to say and that come in not just bait but the way that you give it to them. They learn to bait one from another and there for you have to change and you have to change with the seasons. Oh yes, pay-laking is something else I will talk about that at another time. I just wanted to talk about what I love about carp fishing.
They want you to think that you have got to have 12-foot rod and spring reel that are called bait runner reel that can cost a lot of money but you can catch carp on a 33 Zebco and a 202 Zebco. The 202 won’t last long but the 33 is a great reel there has been a lot of carp got with them their reels over the years I tell you. A 33 is a lot of fun too! On a 6 and a ½ foot rod it is. I use bait casters I have to use them for 40 something years now carp fishing. I love them I have the cheap ones and I take care of them so I get a few years out of them. One day I’m going to save me up some money and get me some c4s that is what I want. We all have to do our best to do what we love to do the best that we can do it you know.
Stands you have got to have something to hold your reels. They make stands that you can get at the pay-lakes to hold them but if you don’t want to do that. You can use a screwdriver to hold them on the bank. Just put it in between the line, rod and in front of the reel and you have it. I use it for quite a few years this way before I got stands. I even use sticks but that is not a good thing to use I lost a few rod and reels using them. If you have the money I would pick up a set of stands at the pay-lakes. They also sell some on the web. But most that I have seen are for spinning reels.

I will try and add new stuff this year to the gallery, stories and baits. That is what I think that you may want the most is baits so I will do my best for that. I hope to be able to get some new photos in the gallery this year at less more then I got last year. I will be doing the fishing log a gene this year as I did last year. I also hope to fish more than one lake this year and am able to talk about that some in the fishing logs. Well that is just some of what I have in store for all this year so get out there and catch that big one of a life time. JustCarp'N
