The Road Runner
Mike Haywood other wise called Speedy and that he was! He was all the time running around real fast you know any were that you saw him he was all ways on the move. Well this man had rice bait that you could smell that would make you want something to eat. Did not matter witch end of the lake that you were at you would smell it for it was just that strong. It was Yellow rice that was real bright in color. All most as yellow as the one that the Clown use. It smelled just like a cake that was right out of the oven you know.
Well you put that rice with someone that knew carp the way that he did and you were in trouble I tell you. See Mike was from the old school and had a lot of the teachers that I had learning carp fishing. Like I and some others he was thought to watch what was going on around you at all times. I will say that he did do just that for I could see it when I was watching him and he did not know it.
One of the best lessons that you could be showed in the old days was when new fish was put into a lake. For if you kept up with it you would learn that they were going to be group up in fish about the same size within a few lbs. Now learning this you would also learn when to move if you got into some new fish that were not big enough to take a jack pot. See when new carp are put into a new lake or home they will not bite for a while. Now a few will be got off the bat but most of the time they were foul hook. But with in 4 to 6 weeks they will start to turn on. Mostly about 6 weeks was when you would really be looking to get them. Man you could get them I tell you and Mike learn this very well.
Learning this made Mike just another carp fishermen that was one of the hardest to beat that you would ever fish ageist any were at all. When he got into them he was all ways running to weight a fish. I watch him one time at Lonzo’s get 4 or 5 jack pots in just a couple of hours on the far side of the lake. He had a day like you just don’t have but just a few times in life carp fishing. But I seen him over the years that we fish do it more then a few times. Well Mike I will call you the Road Runner of carp fishing in my book friend. For when you were on them that is just what you were doing just as hard as you could go on them there little legs of yours.
