Terry! This one took place at a lake called Rainbow Lake in Kannapolis NC. I went fishing in the morning and Terry Williams was there so I started to talk to him. You know to learn something that I did not know for I was new at this and I wasn’t but 11 years old. This was back in 1966 a long time ago.
He had a couple of different kinds of grits baits that were cook baits back then and some pack bait. I ask him what and how that he made his bait and I told him that I was new to the carp fishing. That my dad had passed a way a month ago and I was just fishing to pass the time away.
He told me that he heard that I lost my dad and that he was sorry for my lost and that he would help me, all that he could. His first grits were sweet potatoes and man did, they small good. I ask him how he got them to stay on the hook he said corn starch he also said that you could use flour but he like corn starch. You had to cook them for a while and use an old pot. He put a little all spice in them to.
The other ones were ketchup and grits cook the same way. For the pack bait it was beer bait with ginger. That is the way that went for the day so we talk and got a few fish. Another fishing friend and teacher in carp fishing so lucky.
