Chumming!
Chumming a spot has been around as long as fishing for carp has. It is something that we all do some kind if chumming when we fish. Now if you are chumming you want your bait to come apart a lot faster then, when you are fishing with it. Most lakes don't like this but everybody does it some I think. It is just the way that it is we all are going to do it to try and catch that fish. Were we throwing bait off with our reels witch we do. Baiting up every 15 minutes or so on your reels to get the fish feeding. Back to the bait thing you want it to where you can get it out. But when it hits the water it starts to come apart. Yes that fast so that it can cover a large area. To get the fish in on it fast as you can. You do this a couple of hours, then as time goes by you got to tighten it up some.
If you are fishing close to the bank you can see the bait and what it is doing as you put it in the water if you fish close. That is the way that I like to fish over the years, was close to the bank in a corner some were. I fish this way quite a bit over the years. We use to use old rice for this; rice that was hard to pack and hard to stay on the hook. It was good for baiting a hole up with.
Another thing that we use to do was. That we would take bread and take a little and roll it in between your fingers, making it in little tight round balls, or squares trumping it out in the water. Doing this in front of you, and around your reels making a half moon. Soon you will start to see fish coming up and making swirls. Sticking their heads out of the water and then all at once that big one shows his self. Too early for him so you say to him thanks for coming by come back a little later.
So you go back to taking bread and rolling a little in between your fingers making squares then trumping it in the water to hold that big fish that you see. Then you pull another trick out of the hat. You open that 5 gallon bucket that you broth from home. The one that you had a couple of weeks: in the sun outside your house. Pour a little in the water bucket and put the lid back on it. No one was looking that good. So you dump it in the water at your number 3 reel that you have off the bank.
You see the white cloud go through the water. Then you think to yourself that will call him in. All that sent going out in the water. Then you trump a little more bread out in the water do this for about 15 minutes. The bread is good to do when you are just fishing on the hours for you can do it so that no one can see what you doing. I have got a lot of big fish by doing this over the years fishing for carp. Remember that when I learn to do this, which it was ok, everyone done it on the lakes, it was part of fishing. You could even put five gallon bucket full of bait in the lake at a time if you wanted too. Nothing was ever said about it you know.
Now stuff to chum with soybean, wheat bran, rice, bird seed (you have to watch the seed for it may float.), oats, mallow seed, creak corn and bread these are just a few things that you can use to chum with. Old baits that you have let over it’s best to put it in the same spot. I have known some to put it in different spots and they did not do as good as the rest of us. I hope that this helps some out there in carp fishing.
