The Carp that Thought He was a Bass!
Well it has been a year today that I lost mom and a little over a year that I lost my friend Rick. I was setting here thinking of them and thought I would try and write something. This one took place down at a lake call Lakeshore. It is run by a good man that we call HL.
Rick and I had been fishing up at another lake call Parkers. We had got up there the night before at around 3 in the morning. Caught a few fish that day up to about 12 or 1 if I remember right. We got talking about Lakeshore and got thinking about how they were biting there. One thing led to another and the next thing we knew was we were putting stuff in the car and off we were.
We got down at Lakeshore at about 4 and there were getting ready to draw for spots at 4:30 on this day I believe. Anyway we got up with another one of our best friends Dale. We talk about were to fish and were that they had been coming from on the lake. I walk around to see what I could. We pick a few places to get but it was up to when we got draw as to were we could get.
Well we got a few fish and things got real slow that night. So we were telling jokes and laughing a bit just cutting up some like we all ways did. Fussing about how slow the fish were and that we wish that they would pick up a lot I'm sure that you know what I mean.
Dale is one that will start to get saying things if he not catching fish and everybody around him is if you know what I mean. Well Rick and I would tell him that something would happen that we just felt it you know. Rick was all ways telling us that when things got the way that it was on this night.
A couple of hours went by and they just kelp carrying fish by us. Man it was getting next to me by now and Rick had to tell me that things were going to get better because he just knew and felt that something was going to happen. It got so show that I was starting to fall to sleep and they were having a great time with that I tell you. These guys were laughing so darn hard at me and making me jump. That they all most busted their gut I believe.
Well now after a couple of other things we got feeling darn good by now I tell you. The fish were starting to move a lot better and starting to get around were we were fishing at. We were laughing and just having a blast even with the way that things had been. Dale was telling us that something needed to start happing if Rick and I were going to be right about our feeling that night. Dale had another run and this time look at us and we knew that he had got into a good fish too. They had been biting well all around us and big fish.
We were fishing on the high bank that night. Dale was playing that fish for all that he could. Then about that time it just came up to the top of the water and roll on its side. Now that not a good thing for one to be doing. Dale seen that fish and so did we and it was big I tell you. This started to play with his mind a little and ours but Rick and I were not trying to show that. But it was doing that enough with Dale that he did not need to hear or see that it was getting to us in the same way. So we just kelp trying to help him keep his cool you know.
This is not a good thing to be having to pull a fish this size across the top of the water let me tell you. But that was just what Dale had to do. The thing about this was the fish was not trying at all to get lose. We could not believe the way that it was doing.
Well he got it to the net and the fish bump into it. Then of all the things to do this sucker came to life. Let me remind you that we were on the high bank and I was siding down it some and that did not help at all. Now as you know that ounce that it gets to the net it on the ones hands that have the net. This was one big carp! It one that you don't won't to miss for if you do you will never hear the end of it.
I went to net this fish and he started to think that he was a big bass and not a carp. Out of the net he comes and I mean slap out of the net in the air. Now this carp was all most three feet above the water in the lake. Dale was saying there went the hooks please don't loss this fish. Rick was saying Paul stay with that fish man. I was lifting the net up as this big carp was swinging it self all over the place and I was getting closer to the water all the time. They were trying to keep me from going down the bank and I was trying to get this big carp in the net were he should be at this time. But he was having no part of it I tell you no sir he was not. He was going to get out of it if it was the last thing that he did. The water was everywhere they were still telling me not to lose this fish. I done made up mine mind that I was not going to lose this fish if I had to fall in the lake then that was just what I would have done.
I have never seen a fish do like this one was doing in all my years carp fishing at all. He was staying in the air like what seem to never end if you know what I mean. The more that I raise the net the higher he was getting. When I finally got the fish in the net the net was all most out of the water and we had a big net. Got him on the bank and I have got to say that even that Dale caugth this fish I feel like I also caugth it myself. I think that we all were feeling that way on this night with that carp for it took all three of us to get that big carp. This fish was over 27lbs and is one of the biggest fish that I have ever had the pleasure of netting.
It also got Dale the biggest fish of the night and a jack pot and on the fish off. It was his last chance to get on it that night. Is and will ever be one of the best times that I will remember carp fishing with friends. For this night that is just what it was.
