THE DAME!

The Dame! This one was back a few years ago to. I say around 1988 or so. It took place at yes you guest it Lonzo’s Lake in Mt Pleasant NC. Mike, Terry and myself got there about 3:00 o’clock in the evening and we all got set up on the dame. It was Mike then Terry and then me I was the closest to the spillway you know.

We all started to bait up and I had some bait that I had for a while. Boy did it smell you know just about to the point that you had to hold your nose. Anyway I would put some in my water bucket and dump it over the side, of the dame were that I had my end reel at. I just held it out and push the button and let it drop in the water that is how far I was fishing out.

After a while my corks would slap the rods real hard. You could see the water getting real mudded at the bank. After a while you could see their backs and tails coming out of the water to. By this time I was catching a few small ones noting big.

About that time the end rod the cork hit the rod real hard. Went down and few up hit the rod and few into a hundred pieces. It hit it so hard that I thought that it was going to pull it out of the stand. I set the hook on the fish and it was on.

To the bottom of the lake it went. And that is were that it wanted to stay. I would pull it in to the dame and it would roll and twist and back to the bottom it would go. Terry told Lonzo to get the money out for that we were coming to get some of it. I went trough this six times I knew before we ever got to see the fish. I look at Terry and Mike and said to them that it was a catfish. Back to the bottom it went it agene I told Terry to get the net and I told Lonzo that I would give him ten dollars for a picture. Terry put the net in the water and netted the fish and there was fish sticking out broth ends of the net. We carried the catfish around to put it on the scales. Lonzo took one look at it gab the net out of our hands and put the fish back in the lake. I started for Lonzo and Terry stop me. Said Paul lets go home man it not worth it. Or something like that.
